MARTIAL ARTS HISTORY - "I have always wanted to take Martial Arts." Says Joshua when asked why he joined TKJRMA. Josh got his final push to take Martial Arts from a friend who was taking KungFu back in 1999. His friend invited him to join the class. Josh recalls, "They had good workouts stretching. The one difference was I hated the activities. I needed action! That's when Sempai Emily told Joshua about TKJRMA. So, on that fateful Wednesday Night back in August 2000 Joshua was hooked.

"Another reason why I joined was when I was 6 my family and I were mugged! No one was seriously injured but I had a life change there." Joshua recalls that if he was bigger he could have stopped the mugger. Now he realizes that the skills he's learned here in the class has empowered him to defend himself if he needed to, but more importantly to be more confident. Joshua says, "So, this proves that something good CAN come out of something BAD.

Joshua had many reasons why he wanted to study TKJR, but 2 really stand out: 1) Even before the mugging he always wanted to learn to break things with his hands! And 2) Something positive to do with his time! So today he credits (blames during workout night) his friend Fielding or Jay, Sempai Emily, himself, the mugger and his having nothing to do with his time on him taking up TKJR! We're glad he did!

"I can't wait to see the New Dojo Sensei is about to buy. All my Instructors are wonderful and I like them all, but one of my favorites would be Sensei Malik who is one of my role models. I get to do my sparring with him on Saturdays."
